Winter is upon us

Snapped this with my Phone on a winters bike ride, could not resist those amazing bowes.

"How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.

At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow."

Smooth Kung Fu Fan Form

This piece is a Photoshop collage.  During this year My Wing Chun Sifu has been teaching me the Kung Fu Fan form, this has proved to be fun and very challenging both mentally and physically, the complex coordination of the movements as you transition through the forms stages while trying to bring all the energy from the ground through the core and hips is very hard to grasp, but this is the whole point, Kung Fu should confuse, confusion is good it holds you in the moment, all life happens in the moment.

The Thatch

This little drawing in coloured pencils is grabbed from the shadows of my imagination.  I have a strong connection to old cottages, I have lived in both old and new houses but I always find that when I enter an ancient cottage I have an overpowering feeling of familiarity, I can only explain it as a feeling of coming home.  I have often mused where this connection comes from, could it be a latent childhood memory that I can't put my finger on! but I question that notion as I grew up in a 1950s bungalow and my relatives inhabited post war council houses. I have been told by many and feel myself to be an old soul...perhaps this connection to old homes is a past life thing :0)

Croft Cottage

So to take this blog in a slightly different direction, I don't only do cartoon style art.  This is a watercolour painting I did a few years back, I love old buildings, it's wonderful to see a beautifully cared for historic building or a tumble down castle and muse about the generation that have gone before us, to wonder how they lived what their expectations and dreams may have been.
I actually lived in this 17thC cottage, I painted this view from an old 1930s photo, which as many old photos is itself a wonderful piece of Art.
